Pay As You Throw - Zero Sort Recycling

Monthly Data on Tons of Trash and Recyclables Disposed Year Over Year Comparison

Notes

On July 1, 2010, the City of Brewer switched from a "traditional" sorted curbside collection recycling program (paper, corrugated cardboard, glass and tin) to Zero Sort Recycling, a form of single stream, or all‐in‐one , recycling. The frequency of pickup did not change (it remained monthly).

On January 1, 2011, the City of Brewer increased the frequency of Zero Sort Recycling curbside pickup to every other week. That day also marked the start of the City's new Pay As You Throw (PAYT) trash program, which requires residents to place waste at the curb in special orange bags they purchase at local retail stores. Large (33 gal) bags are $2.00 each; small (15 gal) bags are $1.25 each. The frequency of trash collection did not change (it remained weekly).
