 What is a Land Trust?
A land trust aims to protect the lands and
waters that define our communities and enrich our quality of life. A
land trust may accomplish this through establishing and monitoring
permanent conservation easements or with fee ownership. Conservation
easements are legal agreements by which landowners voluntarily limit the
development potential and use of their land. The land remains in
existing ownership but the easement "runs with the title" insuring that
the protections remain in place regardless of who may own the land in
the future.
Brewer Land Trust Mission Statement:
To cooperatively protect and preserve the natural and scenic resources
of the City of Brewer and State of Maine, to encourage open space and
green areas, to increase public awareness and understanding of the
importance in conservation of natural resources and the
interrelationships that exist among them, and to foster a trail system
connecting to public areas and regional trails with all of the above for
the enjoyment and benefit of present and future generations.
Donations:
If you would like to donate land or create a conservation easement,
please contact us. Monetary donations are always welcome.
