Brewer Landfill Modifies Acceptable Materials List

Brewer is currently revising its operating procedures at your construction and demolition debris landfill to ensure we meet the requirements of all State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection regulations. An Acceptable Materials List has been prepared to answer the most commonly asked questions about what can be taken to the landfill and what cannot.

The Acceptable CDD lists materials that can go into our landfill.  The Not Acceptable lists materials that cannot be accepted at the landfill under any circumstances. To do so would be a violation of our operating permit and State or Federal regulations. If the Facility Operator finds these items in any load delivered to the landfill, he will ask you to separate these items and remove them from the landfill area when you leave.  The Recyclables lists bulky material that we will accept at the landfill facility but they will be recycled instead of being placed in the landfill.  You will need to keep these items separated so that they can placed in the correct designated area at the landfill.  The Facility Operator will be available at all times to help you and answer any questions you may have.

We strongly recommend that all residents participate in Brewer's Household Recycling Program.  By doing so, the life of the landfill can be significantly extended, reducing the long-term costs to the taxpayers.  Please separate newspaper, office paper, cardboard, glass jars, tin cans, and plastic jugs for curbside pickup on the first regular trash day of the month or drop them off at the Recycling Center at the Brewer Landfill, 403 Elm Street*.  Our children should be able to inherit a world at least as clean as ours.
