Household Hazardous Waste Program (HHHW)

The City of Brewer has been successfully participating in the Regional Household Hazardous Waste Program now for 8 years. Over 20 local communities belong to the program and each year Brewer has the second most residents participate. Each year the HHHW program is scheduled for the first Saturday in October and the waste must be delivered by Brewer residents to the Bangor Public Works Department for collection. The cost of this program, is included in the City’s budget therefore there is no cost to the Brewer residents to participate. 

Each resident is allowed to recycle up to 15 gallons of hazardous waste each year.

Brewer residents must have a Residential Household Hazardous Waste Product Permit in order to participate in the collection. Brewer residents can obtain permits during normal business hours at Brewer Public Works during the month of September of each year. To obtain a permit you will need proof of residency and a detailed list of the types of material and quantities you would like to bring to the collection site. The permit must be taken to the Bangor Public Works Department on the HHHW collection day.

Used Motor Oil
Old gasoline
Brake Fluid
Paint Remover and Thinner
Rat Poison
Linseed Oil
Used Antifreeze
Varnish
Transmission Fluid
Hydraulic Fluid
Pesticides
Fertilizer
Fungicides
Herbicides

Please deliver all your universal waste to the City of Brewer Universal Waste Building located at the Brewer Water Pollution Control Facility at 37 Oak Street.
