Brewer hires new code enforcement officer

The city’s newly appointed code enforcement officer is new to the post, but has been around for more than a year serving as the deputy code officer, departing code officer Rodney Butler said Wednesday.

“That is why he is ready to step right in,” said Butler, who leaves the job Friday, Sept. 9.

Butler accepted an engineering position with Poland Springs Water Co., “a position well suited to his educational and professional background,” said City Manager Steve Bost.

“He’s a highly sought after individual,” he said.

Bost said he offered the job to Ben Breadmore, assistant code enforcement officer, and Breadmore accepted the position. His hiring has been placed on the Sept. 13 City Council meeting agenda, the city manager said.

“He’ll do a wonderful job as the new code officer,” Bost said. “He’s been with Rodney for the better part of a year now and he has obtained all of the required credentials.”

Breadmore also has a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Maine, where he studied public policy and education.

Bulter was a wonderful asset to Brewer, especially with “his encyclopedic knowledge of our codes and ordinances, his friendly demeanor and dry wit,” Bost said in a memo to councilors. “We wish him well in his new position.”

Butler said departing Brewer is bittersweet.

“I’m going to miss Brewer,” he said. “They are great to work with and I really enjoyed my time here but this is such a great opportunity for me and my family.”
