Just a reminder to all, do it yourselfers, who reside in Brewer and to all the
contractors that work in Brewer. One of the best ways to protect yourselves is
to, secure a permit before commencing any project. The City Of Brewer requires
an array of permits for Residential and Commercial
Building Construction. Electrical and Plumbing Permits. Street Opening permits
for driveways or water and sewer connections. Oil Fired Appliance, as well as,
wood stove permits. The Code Office also issues Sewer Impact Permits. We issue
Certificate of Occupancy Applications and permits for new businesses locating
within a new structure, as well as, relocated businesses locating within
existing buildings.
Another good way to protect yourself is to ask your contractor for references.
Ask if you may have the locations of some other jobs the contractor may have
completed so you may see, for yourself, the quality of work performed. Always
ask for proof of insurance and a signed contract. A signed contract is a legal
document and may be your only way to recover any damages if they should occur.
If the contractor is not willing to provide you with these items you may want to
reconsider your choice of contractors.
Please keep these things in mind when undertaking a project at your home. Call
us for property setback information for whatever addition, alteration or new
building or fence you plan to be constructing at your property. A phone call
before you start could save you time , money and effort if proper setbacks are
not met. And remember you may also apply for a permit on-line.
