The Brewer Fire Department consists of a total of 42 career and on-call members who provide the citizens with 24-hours-a-day coverage of emergency and non-emergency service.  Their mission is to serve to the public.

The Fire Department's career personnel consists of a chief, an assistant chief, two captains, two lieutenants, 12 firefighters, one ambulance paramedic per shift and a secretary. The Department's part time paid on call personnel consists of one captain, one lieutenant and 20 firefighters. The career division is made up of three crews of five members and one paramedic each. It is their responsibility to insure that apparatus and equipment is maintained to operate at 100% efficiency. Routine upkeep of the Public Safety Building, Fire Department Training Area, and training personnel are also regular duties.  Assisting other City departments, and most importantly, helping the citizens of Brewer when called upon to do so, is the Fire Department's primary mission.

Public Education is carried out by officers in the career division. The era of firefighters just fighting fires has vanished, and the new age of prevention and suppression is upon us. In keeping with this new trend, our staff personnel spend many hours devoted to the area of training, education, and inspections.

In September of 2003 we began operating a second ambulance.  This is to meet the ever growing demand for medical service.  The Brewer Fire Department provides primary ambulance service in Brewer, Holden, Eddington and Clifton.
